Perhaps because these songs manipulate an already-self-loathing fanbase. Think about it: when have you ever met a teenager who is COMFORTABLE with exactly how they are?
These songs are almost manufactured to take advantage of that. Hell, most of pop music throughout history has attempted to do the same thing, to varying degrees of success.
